My Take on The Duck Dynasty Tempest in a Teapot

OK, so Big Daddy Phil Robertson is a bigot who doesn’t like homos and said so in a national magazine read by a lot of homos. (You ever hear of “freedom of speech?”) And A & E who can count the Duck Dynasty for its very healthy revenue stream of late, played the politically correct card and suspended him.

OK, so?

First, money talks, nobody walks, and either A & E will somehow make a backface (since Robertson refuses to apologize) and let him return to the fold, or the Dynasty family will make good on its threats and pack its bags – for another network.

And yea, our side has been making the predictable stink about these anti-gay slurs (like what else is the gay media and pundits gonna say?), and true, gay hate talk may lead to gay hate acts. But 250,000 DD supporters have also expressed their anger against the network.

So what does all this prove?

(a) A lot of people still don’t like us, whether they use the Bible as justification or not.

(b) That ain’t gonna change.

(c) Regardless what Big Daddy Phil said, a lot of us gay boys will continue to watch the show (I haven’t, not because it’s beneath me – I’m just not into reality shows) since they’re jerky and we like to watch jerks.

The more attention we all give this DD tempest in a teapot, the higher its ratings – and revenue – will rise and everyone involved, including holier than-thou A & E, will be crying all the way to the bank.

As I one politico or celeb once said, “I don’t care what you write about me as long as you spell my name right.”

Positive or negative press, DD still stands to gain in the end.

So like I advise my buddies who are getting fucked over by some “love,” the best way to get even is not to rant or rave or devise some devious plot against him (all of which shows you still give a shit).

No, the best thing to do is – nothing at all.

Update:

Well, what did I predict, huh? A&E has quietly backed down without any apologizes or “oh, shucks, I didn’t really meant it” from the Duck Dynasty Dad.

Why?

Like I said, money, baby, it’s all about the money.

Never fear this will be their final season as viewers wander. In a new light caused by this flap, viewers will see them in a new perspective of insanely stupid people doing the best they are capable of. Simply rags to riches, to rags family of shameless fools that can be normally found at an area welfare office.
